Jonathan E. Hyun

 

Jonathan has over 20+ years in the legal profession counseling clients on corporate and tax law related matters.  He serves an outside general counsel role for several of his clients, providing business counseling on general corporate and day-to-day operational matters.  He also works with and advises clients on structuring and tax planning strategies. In addition, Jonathan has extensive experience in a wide variety of executive compensation and employee benefits matters, including employment and severance agreements, non-qualified deferred compensation plans, equity-based and incentive compensation plans, tax-qualified retirement plans (including ESOPs), mergers and acquisitions (employment and pension issues), ERISA litigation, U.S. and global stock-based compensation plans, international executive transfers, and health care and other welfare benefits plans.

Jonathan represents a wide range of clients:  publicly and privately held companies (including start-up ventures), high net worth investors, family offices, venture capital and private equity funds, financial institutions, boards of directors, retirement plan and compensation committees, and individual executives.

​

Jonathan serves as a Board Member of Champions for Cures and has engaged in pro bono services for several charitable, civic and community organizations, including The Law Project, RefugeeOne, and National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc. - Chicago Metropolitan Chapter.

He has been selected and recognized by various independent organizations on their lists of top attorneys, such as Leading Lawyers and Illinois Super Lawyers.

​

Jonathan earned his Juris Doctor degree at Boston University School of Law in Boston, MA and his Bachelor of Arts degree, cum laude, at Boston University, majoring in Economics and minoring in Statistics.

 

Jonathan previously practiced at Kelley Kronenberg, Handler Thayer, Vedder Price, Gardner, Carton & Douglas (combined with Drinker Biddle in 2006) and Baker McKenzie in Chicago, and Winston & Strawn in Los Angeles, CA.  He also was a legal intern during law school at the U.S. Department of Labor - EBSA in Boston, MA.
